what about the wood that is outside of the paneling? isnt the water damage risky for mold? i am currently renovating a rv and thought i needed to replace all that wood.

Can anybody tell me what type pf wood panels he is using? Had a heavy rain and it brought out leaks and i can tell water damage to the front like his and as well as water damage to the front side as well. ANd a good seal for the outside trims where the screws are ans well as a good seal for where the metal panels over lay to seal it well. Thanks

Bought one of these and the first time I used it, it came apart. The very first time! You people should be ashamed of yourselves. On this site promoting junk for the RV builders. You’re not trying to help people. You’re just trying to sell a whole lot of BS and make money off of the people who just want a little adventure . I used to build these over priced junk on wheels. I recently saw a product from dicor that is a tape to cover the gap where the metals butt, side/top. Years ago, vintage campers, folded the top over the side, which certainly was time consuming, but shed the water completely and the j-rail was on the side, before they started and used CAP MOLDING and did not lap the roof. It’s really a disaster waiting to happen, lol. I had a building built to cover my camper, so it is only exposed to sun/rain/weather, when we camp. Hoping mine never leaks, lol. What year is your camper?

You did a nice job fixing it up. Since you added a vapor barrier, I'm wondering why you didn't just remove the couple extra panels and run it all the way up and under the roof. Could have assured any small leaks up high would not sink in again. You had that all off, should have done the extra 2 feet.

Thank you so much for showing this process. I have extensive water damage in the same area of my Jayco, and while a different model and brand, the process is exactly the same. I wasn't sure how to go about replacing the wood panels in side behind our faux wallpaper, nor how to access the outside behind the aluminum panels. But watching you remove the stripping on the sides, remove the screws and take down the panels so you can see the insulation behind it gives me confidence that I can pull of this repair easily, and do it well. A repair like this would cost THOUSANDS here where I live AND I'd be lucky if they actually got me an appointment within the next 6 months. After all that there's no telling whether they'd actually do a quality repair job I can trust. So, thank you, very much.

This is awesome information. I’m a single mom who wants to fix up the rv that I live in but I can’t afford these $5k-10k quotes that the rv guys are giving me.

I know this is old but nice job. Biggest problem with this kind of system is the tonneau cover. If your lucky enough to have an undermount garage door style of rollup then all is good. If not, then you have a problem accessing the bed. My cover rolls up on top and gets bigger as it goes back. I am working to make a system like this but it requires 7+ inches of rail clearance for me. Another thought is maybe use unistrut low profile for the rail which gives you a lot of spacing options for the crossbars.Loading is better then a lot of roof systems since you can do it in stages lifting to the tailgate first. Final note, The cost has gone up considerably like everything else. The swagnan are still really reasonable but metal and parts have gone up a whole lot.

Just a side not ,,theres no realistic vapor barriers, aluminum, will sweat enough to cause rot and mold ,campers are non stop upkeep

Hello, I know it’s been a while since you aired this video. Couple questions. I currently live in SC but am retired and will be selling my condo. My intent is to full time travel across USA. (a mix of car camping and Airbnbs) I plan to set up a mail forwarding service in Florida or another income tax free state. I currently have bank accounts in SC. When you say bring two bills, can you provide examples? Do they need to be like utility bills from Florida or bank statements from a bank in Florida and not SC? Obviously I still have a SC driver license and plates…. Will that need to be changed as well? I’m guessing that the tax audit office recognizes your mail forwarding company as your residency? Thanks for any information

This is an amazingly layman’s terms video to follow. Just 2 days ago I picked up the camper of my dreams: a 2000 Nomad. Rookie mistake; I didn’t look at the roof before purchasing. It was dark when I looked at it so… At home, when I did look , a big 12x3 inch hole on top! It’s right in the front exactly where yours is. Mine is a front kitchen tho. I tarped it as good as I could and will work on getting the cabinets down as it’s Dec here in Michigan so the outside will wait until spring. Thank you again for a very thorough video.

How do y’all clean ur toilet or is it not that plastic

We’ve been camping for 7 years and have never seen a sewer dump at the front of the site. Ridiculous! I would have just used the dump if they had one. I noticed you used X-chocks but did nor chock behind your wheels unless I missed it. X-chocks are not a replacement for wheel chocks. I believe it says that in their instructions. Overall, a good video for beginners.

I have a toy hauler that is shaped a little different. The trailer had prior water damage before I got it and more water damage on the front part where the bed is. Mold has set in. Water has leaked into the storage department too. From what you are doing that looks like way too much work specially if it's not done right and has to be done again. Watching all of this, It's time to cut my losses and get rid of the darn thing. What concerns me and others have alluded is the damaged wood. Don't understand why you ignored it? You're going to wind up getting right back out there and starting all over. The stuff on the wood looks like black mold. Get your father back over there and cut that wood out man. The problem is not going to go away through osmosis.

Any place where there could be water running in high am I trailer? I replaced it with treated nontoxic treated lumber that way even the water gets in it can’t right away and just dissipate and then vapor barrier vapor barrier. They didn’t use it originally because it cost money but you should put it back on. You should put some ice and water shield or Tyvek.

Myself and my coworkers at the Florida youth conservation corps reconstructed that fort in the mid 90's. I was trying to find any mention of the nearly two years of back breaking labor on the website for it. We would go in two weeks shifts, 14 men at a time, we would camp in tents at the state park year round. I made $4.25 an hour, it was the hardest I ever worked in my life but l wouldn't trade that experience for anything in the world. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane. ❤

I worked at an RV repair shop for a few years long ago.We had brand new RV's that leaked and had water damage(rot). It could be prevented with wider corner moulding and more care in sealing all the joints.We were kept busy repairing rot.

When arrived it was very simple to adjust and put together. I also added spike tape over the metal hooks before securing and tightening the straps, and no scratches. I also purchased the top bar made by the same company so that my cruiser sits straight on the rack without having to turn upside down. Extra bungee cords are used to secure the front wheel from flapping and even piece of mind knowing your bike is secure. Definitely recommend...
